Thread For Peace
by Miriam Halahmy

Brick Lane Gallery, December 2006

This poem was created using contributions to the Wall for Peace made during my residency at the Brick Lane Gallery Peace Camp, December 2006. Participants wrote their thoughts inspired by a photograph of graffiti on a wall in the East End, taken my brother, Louis Berk. The graffiti said " You can't fight for peace, you have to peace for peace." Many thanks to everyone who gave us their thoughts.

PEACE NEEDS U!
Don't be afraid to ask questions
every heart is a revolutionary cell
why stop dreaming when you wake up?

Say your name out loud for Peace
a piece of cake
a state of mind
Peace can be found under white linen sheets.

The Prince of Peace
and all better fellows
will bring Peace
an illusive concept

Children in green tangled branches
What a nice idea!
Peace doesn't start but you can find it
Peace is a pigeon in a party suit
(this person was thinking of doves!)

Peace is being alone
sun bleached hair swirling
while tiny limbs twirl
it is not only for dreams

So! What can you do?
Sweat for peace, pierce for peace
tune your guitar for peace
swipe your Oyster card for peace
unpoint your gun for peace
sink your difference for peace
limp, tap your foot, do a dance for peace
tell the truth for peace, get well for peace
make jam for peace, stand nude for peace
shiver for peace, go crazy for peace
rockn'roll for peace
do something for peace
DO IT!
