Miriam has a unique gift of running workshops for those who thought they could already write and those who were convinced they couldn’t. She makes everyone contribute, both creatively and critically.

My writing has improved because Miriam gives us the freedom to develop in our own way and at our own pace, yet she is full of ideas for exercises and subjects to stimulate the creative juices. She is constantly encouraging and a penetrative critic.

Miriam's workshop on writing Dialogue was very helpful. I have looked at my characters in a new light and hope to finish my book this month. Her comments on my writing were concise, fair and yet encouraging. Thanks Miriam.

I really enjoyed your course on dialogue. It was informative, practical and entertaining.
I especially liked the exercise using our own characters. It helped me to gain a greater depth of my characters' personalities and provided the push I needed to move my story forward.
Thanks Miriam. -

Miriam is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She had concrete suggestions on how to improve my writing, and she was full of enthusiasm and support for her students. I would take any class of hers again in a heartbeat. Just give it a try- you won't regret it.

This workshop opened up the door to so many different possibilities for character construction. To write about the opposite of yourself is obvious, but a rarely done task. Miriam Halahmy highlighted key points to get us started at creating different characters. The workshop was very focused and comprehensive.

Bridget Harrison grew up in a large and entertaining family in the 1930s and 40s. Her mischievous tales of childhood when she orchestrated more scrapes that the average little girl, take us on a roller coaster ride to the calmer years of marriage and children. With a backdrop of terrifying illness and the unfailing devotion to a child from the Kindertransporte absorbed into their extraordinary home, this is the story of a family which regarded all humanity of equal worth and value.

I was in Safed at the bottom of a long flight of steps. At the top were figures of men. One was prominent, his arms outstretched, reaching to the heavens. Their backs were towards me, the sun behind them....
And 400 years earlier a mystic in Safed had the same dream. These two events collide in this compelling novel.

In the late 1950s I left a world of simple pleasures, where the pace of life was slow and time almost stood still, and I arrived in a place where my every movement was to be governed by the ticking of the clock.
When I look back I ask myself two questions, What has become of my island's people? And what has happened to the place that I now call home; how has it changed?
